Hampton County has a rich heritage dating back to the Native American Indians, Revolutionary War and Civil War that is documented at historical sites and in displays at county and town museums.
Hampton County well known for its hunting, fishing and beautiful outdoors is a sportsman’s paradise. The principal species are white-tailed deer, wild turkey, bob-white quail and mourning doves. Fishing varieties include large mouth bass, catfish, striped bass and bream.
Hampton County is home to the oldest continuing festival in South Carolina each June with the Hampton County Watermelon Festival. This week long event was first held in 1939 to celebrate the county’s famous watermelons.
